In this article we will explain exactly what types of Hydroponic Hoods reflectors have been produce over the years in the indoor grow room or Hydroponics Gardening Industry and how you can still use each hydroponic hood effectively in certain situations.
My Mentor once told me that life is a series of learning curves.
As we talk about a few different types of hydroponic hoods you will see that like life this new indoor Gardening industry is no different.
Each hydroponic hood aka Reflector that we talk about and in the order we talk about them will show the learning curve Indoor Gardening Equipment went through to solve the problems that arise.
While being hired all over the country for consulting on indoor gardening we have had the opportunity to see how hundreds of growers made their initial decision to pick a hydroponic hood/reflector and how they all worked to solve the same problem “HEAT”!
The 1st real type of hydroponic hood was reference as a REFLECTOR and is now labeled as Parabolic Reflector, umbrella, or winged reflectors. Indoor gardening has been being experimented on since the late 1920’s.
One of the first things they improved upon was improving the efficiency of the light being used. Some of the original inventions that were created are still being used today.
There is no one hydroponic hoods/reflector fits all growing situations.
We normally reference the style of growing with these types of hydroponic hoods as an “Open Bulb Grow”.
You see this type of hydro hood on CHEAP DEALS sold online for growers that are just starting out.
The thing that bothers us is knowing that this type of hydro hood should only be used by a grower with a larger open Indoor Grow Room w/ A/C, colder outside climate, an Indoor gardener that has between 1- 4 years of growing experience, NOT a Grow Tent. (Package deal on quality Package)
The 2nd type of hydroponic hoods they created is an Air Cooled Hood.
This hydroponic hood is the most popular and normally is what most growers will gravitate to after battling the heat that is produce by the bulb.
This hood when set up properly will allow you to control the majority of the heat that is produced by the bulb. It isn’t perfect although most indoor gardeners can hold temps below 85 degrees which is where the plant completely shuts down photosynthesis.
The Last hydroponic hood I will talk about is a water cooled reflector. I have only grow coached one grower that used this type of equipment and that is because he already had a 10,000 gal water reservoir and the education in farming and plumbing.
This style of indoor gardening is very difficult to master and we only recommend to someone that has the confidence to garden in this highly technical way.
This grower is very successful in this industry using this method, although it took time and a true desire to learn how to grow with this method.
